Shimano Catana 4000FE 3+1BB
If you are looking for a freshwater spinning reel at a very affordable price, the Catana FE is one option you should not ignore. Ideal for a wide range of fishing, from lightweight and medium sized lures, to match and feeder fishing, the understated appearance looks fantastic and the performance is remarkable for a reel of this price. Pair the Catana with any low and mid-priced Shimano rod and you have a great combination that you will be proud to own and use. In use you’ll immediately notice the improved balance produced by Shimano’s latest G-Free body design. This body design is to be found on the very best Shimano reels and makes fishing easier over a long period of time. The smoothness you’ll feel comes from a combination of 3 Shimano Stainless Steel Ball Bearings plus a Roller Bearing, which ensures trouble free performance, even when playing the largest fish. Like top of the range Shimano reels, the aluminium spool has an AR-C design, which combined with Varispeed II line lay improves casting distance and accuracy, with both mono and braided lines. Perhaps the most difficult decision you’ll have to make is which Catana size to choose. There are 7 models, including fast speed ‘HG’ versions, ranging from the smallest 1000 size suitable for lightweight ‘finesse’ fishing up to the largest 4000 size which is perfect for larger lures and heavy feeder fishing. Whichever you choose, the Catana is guaranteed to give you many hours of fishing fun and excitement.

Shimano reel features
Shimano AR-C Spool is a patented spool design with an angled spool lip. This design enables the line to leave the spool with less friction and in smaller coils resulting in longer more accurate casts. AR-C spools are proven to reduce backlash and wind knots when using braid.
Diecast aluminium is used for many types of reel and is most common on fixed spool reel bodies and rotors. It is also used for spools on P4 fixed spool reels and come baitcasting models.
This feature eliminates wobble during the retrieve by counter balancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness. By using computer balancing, an approach similar to car tire balancing, Shimano is able to redistribute the rotor weight to create smooth rotation and eliminate vibrations caused by the reel.
The special grooved design of the Shimano Power Roller significantly reduces line twist and is a big advantage when using thin mono and braid.
The latest generation of the Super Stopper. It uses a one-way, stainless steel roller bearing that eliminates backplay. This provides the angler with instant hooksetting power.
CI4 stands for Carbon Interfusion with the 4 referring to the number of electrons in the Carbon atom. Ultimately, this means CI4 is reinforced Carbon Fiber. The new CI4+ is the next generation of Shimano's CI4 material and 250% stronger. It is over one and a half times stronger than Shimano's normal XT-7 graphite and is over 20% lighter. Because it does not contain metal, it is also impervious to rust. So, as a result of its strength and weight, it allows Shimano to create an extremely lightweight reel with very precise tolerances.
